Dr. Elizabeth Shiland, DVM

Dr. Liz Shiland has practiced in Ontario since 2008.
Originally from Maine, she attended veterinary school in Prince Edward Island, and after graduation came to Ontario to pursue a career in sport horse medicine.  With a strong interest in Standardbred racing, southern Ontario was a natural fit to start her own practice in March 2016.

When not working with horses, Dr. Shiland enjoys being outdoors, skiing, traveling, beekeeping, and spending time with her kids Adrien and Ruby and Partner Eric.

Madison Everest

Maddy started with Shiland Equine in May of 2022. She works with Dr. Shiland as her veterinary technician, assisting with the handling of horses and daily diagnostic procedures.

Maddy is originally from small town just west of London, Ontario and now lives in Erin. Maddy has graduated from the University of Guelph and completed her Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science, specializing in Animal Science. Maddy’s love and passion for animals has made her decide to apply to OVC with hopes of becoming a large animal vet. Maddy has worked with dairy cows, cattle, small ruminants, poultry and equine.

In her time away from work she enjoys caring for her pony, hiking, fishing, golfing and travelling.

Jody McGilveary

Jody started working with Shiland Equine in November 2021. Jody is originally from Windsor, ON but has lived in Rockwood going onto 19 years.

Jody has a history of being a groom her whole life. When Jody is away from work, she enjoys spending time with her family. At night time, Jody also works in the paddocks at Mohawk Racetrack.

Emma Cobban

I am originally from London, Ontario, but lived in BC for about 6 years before moving to Guelph to attend university. I am currently completing a Bachelor of Science degree specializing in Animal Biology at the university of Guelph.

I grew up surrounded by dogs and cats, but it was horse riding that truly sparked my interest in pursuing veterinary medicine. After completing my bachelor’s degree, I plan to apply to the OVC in hopes of becoming an equine vet. I have worked with various small animals and horses.

When I’m not working, I enjoy going on hikes with my dog, Luna, and spending time with my friends and family.
